Farmers in New Zealand aren’t big fans of thistles.  These weeds have spread all over the country in the last 150 years, taking over paddocks and causing diseases in livestock.

I’m not a farmer, of course, so after climbing up a small hill just outside the small town of Akaroa I was able to appreciate the beauty of a few of these pink and purple flowers set against the stunning backdrop of Banks Peninsula.

Whether the landowner would have had quite the same view, of course, is another question entirely…
