We’re all going on a … summer holiday

Nothern Thailand view

Well technically it’s a winter holiday, but given that winter temperatures in northern Thailand are still warmer than a summer day in much of New Zealand, I’m going with it.

I haven’t seen much of Chiang Mai the last few weeks.  I haven’t seen much of anything at all outside my apartment, in fact, while I’ve been working furiously on my new travel technology site.  It has been a lot of hard work and I’m really pleased with the end result, but now it’s time for a break.

By the time you read this Lauren and I will have thrown a few things into a backpack, jumped onto our new-well-not-really-but-new-to-us-and-much-better-than-the-last-one scooter and headed north.  When we get back we will have:

- spent a week riding 1000+ km on a 110cc scooter

- explored dozens of small towns and villages in a rough figure of eight loop between Chiang Mai and the Burma and Laos borders

- seen some gorgeous landscapes

- taken hundreds of photos and plenty of video as well

- gotten very sore butts

The route will look something vaguely like this:

We’re taking this trip with Stuart, the founder of the really rather wonderful Travelfish website.  That site is pretty much the bible for travellers in SE Asia, and I used it continually throughout my trip round this region last year.  If you’re going to pick one person to do a road trip like this with, I’m pretty sure he would be it.

So that’s it really.  I’m not lugging my laptop with me so updates will be few and far between.  Just for the comedy value  I might try to write a post or two on my phone, but don’t expect much.  They’ll be short, bad and may not get published – or even written – at all.

Catch you in a week!

If you enjoyed this post please share it with your friends - it only takes a second but it makes a huge difference to me!
