Weekend BBQs

IMG_1998The weekend dawned hot and sunny, which was kinda handy given that the plans revolved around grilled meat and cold beverages.  Yup, it’s BBQ season for sure.

Saturday was reasonably low key, other than my introduction to the wonders of REI – for the Kiwis and Aussies reading this, think Kathmandu on steroids.  Outdoor clothes and equipment as far as the eye can see – if money and luggage capacity weren’t limiting factors I think I could have spend the entire day and a few month’s salary in the place.  In the end I managed to walk out with only a couple of things, which I thought was pretty restrained.

Once things cooled down slightly in the evening a few of the neighbours came over for a bbq, which was good fun.  I even got talked into breaking my cardinal travelling rule (never discuss politics, especially in the US) but thankfully everyone was of a like mind, even after a few beers…

Sunday was pretty damn warm as well – sensing a theme yet?  I really can’t believe how good my experience of Seattle’s weather has been – I’ve never seen the bad weather that the city is infamous for, even when visiting in winter.  After a quick visit to a photography exhibition at the Burke Museum on the plight of polar bears due to global warming (with some great shots from wildlife photographer Steven Kazlowski), and an even quicker visit to a grocery store to buy some beer and the world’s largest piece of steak, we headed off to an engagement party / bbq for some friends of Nick and Elisa’s.

What a great way to spend the afternoon and night that was.  Sun beating down, beers flowing, great food and even better company.  Really hard to complain about any of that, so I didn’t.  At all.  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and I got to meet a bunch of fun new people, so pretty damn successful all round in my opinion.

If you enjoyed this post please share it with your friends - it only takes a second but it makes a huge difference to me!
