The Friday Photo #173 – Stunning Mt Hood is stunning

Mt Hood and Trillium Lake

Finally dragging ourselves away from the food and bicycle-filled wonderfulness of Portland for a day, we headed out of town for a trip around the Colombia Gorge here in northern Oregon.

Having been blessed with incredible weather for the entire month, we were a little disappointed to strike the grey cloud and spits of rain that this part of the country is more renowned for.

Until, that is, we rounded Mt Hood on the way home that afternoon. An article that we’d found suggested that Trillium Lake had perhaps the best vista of Oregon’s favourite mountain. The clouds parted as we approached, leaving only warm sunshine and the happy voices of kids playing in the water nearby.

I was told recently that the Pacific Northwest is like a cheaper version of my homeland, New Zealand. Standing there gazing out at that snow-capped peak, it was hard to disagree.

"Like a cheaper version of New Zealand". I had to fly down to Queenstown yesterday - just like this the views were stunning. That photo could easily be somewhere in the Southern Alps.

You've become a terrible backpacker, I've become an even worse blog stalker ;) Glad you enjoyed your time here in Portland! I can't seem to tear myself away...I've fallen in enough like with being here and climbing mountains that I even bought a house!

I don't think I know you any more, Kim. You've bought a what now?! ;-)

Although to be fair, Portland is one of the few places around the world that I could actually see myself stopping for more than a few months. I could *definitely* spend a summer there each year, that's for sure!
