The Friday Photo #151 – Sunrise over Doubtful Sound

Sunrise over Doubtful Sound

Last week I was lucky enough to experience an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound, in the southwest of New Zealand’s South Island.  Far less visited than its neighbour Milford, this much larger set of bays and inlets is a truly special part of the world.

Surrounded by high mountains, sunrise comes late to Doubtful Sound … which is probably why I even managed to catch the end of it.  Loving the dark shadows of the hills and flat water that stretched as far as I could see, I just stood in the cool breeze and gazed out at the start of a new day.

It was good to be alive.
