The Friday Photo #123 – Sighisoara’s City Hall

The small town of Sighisoara, in the Transylvanian region of Romania, is rightly famous for its remarkable medieval citadel.

One of the very few in Europe that is still inhabited, it seemed very strange to be wandering round the old streets beside ice-cream stands and people hanging out their washing from the windows above.  I was fascinated by everything from the imposing Clock Tower to the covered staircase, but for some reason the City Hall impressed me most of all.

Given that civic buildings usually bore me to tears, that was really rather surprising…
