Design my next tattoo!

Freedom

I talk a lot about freedom around here.

There’s physical freedom.  The kind where you’re free to choose where you go, when you go there and what you do when you arrive.  You’re not tied down to one particular place and time by the people, possessions or choices in your life.

There’s financial freedom.  You may not be flush with cash but you’re not saddled with debt either.  Your income exceeds your expenses, you have enough money in the bank to deal with emergencies, and you’re able to do what makes you happy rather than just existing day to day.

There’s mental freedom.  You know what you want from your life and you believe that maybe – just maybe – you might just be able to achieve it.  Other people’s perceptions, society’s bias and your own nagging voice of self doubt all take second place behind the knowledge that with enough belief and enough hard work, just about anything is possible.

And then there’s that rare occasion where the whole lot comes together at once.

For me that time is right now.

I finish my job in two weeks and fly to Thailand in three.

I have enough money to sustain me for several months as I travel and attempt to build a reliable income stream that can keep me wandering for as long as I choose to.

I have succeeded in situations that scare me often enough in the past to believe that this time will be no different, and in any case fear is a wonderful motivator.

I’m free to do whatever the hell I want, and it is the most incredible feeling in the world.

To celebrate my new-found freedom, I’ve decided it’s time to get the tattoo that I’ve been thinking about for a while.  And that’s where I need your help.

While I’m never short of ideas, I’m often short of other things.  One of those things is almost certainly graphic art skills.  Hey you’ve seen my site, right?

I wouldn’t be doing what I’m about to do if it wasn’t for you, the people that read my site, send me emails and support me in one way or another.  I wouldn’t have this freedom without you, so I’m looking for you to be a part of my next little adventure as well.

I’d love it if you helped me design my next piece of body art.

What I think I’m looking for is pretty straightforward really.

  • It has to fit horizontally on my left wrist.
  • It has to contain the world FREEDOM.
  • Simpler is probably better.

The rest is up to you.  I’m open to pretty much anything.

If you’d like to see your design skills memorialised on my arm for (hopefully) another few decades, I’d absolutely love to hear from you.

Drop me a line and we’ll put something awesome together.  When I get to Thailand in three weeks (eek!), I’ll get it transferred to my skin and post plenty of photos.

Let’s do this – it’s gonna be EPIC!

  • Too funny – I’ve just decided on my next tattoo, which will be horizontal on my left wrist! Now to actually design it – otherwise I’d love to help you out! Can’t wait to see what you get.

  • I can’t wait to see what you end up getting, I LOVE tattoos!

  • I don’t have any graphic design skills either, but I’d love to see what others come up with and what you decide on in the end :)

  • Just across your wrist or down the length of your arm? Which horizontal is it?

Also you totally have to get this done in Chiang Mai! :)

  • Kihm

‘Libertas’- freedom in Latin. Cursive script, simple. :)

    • Libertas is also the name of a market-leading US addiction clinic.

  • What about …

    I love Lauren AND Freedom

And then a picture of my face?

    • What a great idea………

I’ll get back to you real soon now about that.

  • I’m a graphic designer, but I can’t design tattoos. Several people have asked me, and my standard reply is: “Yeah, I can do that if you’re okay with having a tattoo that looks like a corporate logo.” So far, no takers. (I’ve been tainted.)

@Theodora “Libertas is also the name of a market-leading US addiction clinic.” – HA! Great to learn that now. I bet Nissan Pajero wished they’d run their name past a Spanish speaking person before naming one of their most popular cars a Wanker.
