Destination: Greek Islands – sailing in the Ionian
After having had a mate tell me incessantly for several years that spending time sailing in the Greek Islands was pretty much as close to heaven as you could get while still having a heartbeat, a group of us chartered a yacht and spent a week in the Ionian to see whether he was right. Luckily, he was. Words and photos can barely begin to describe just what an amazing part of the world it really is.
The sun beamed down without fail every day, the blue of the cloudless skies matched only by the sparkling azure water. Sailing distances were short, and the laid back vibe of the tiny island villages were a world away from the party-centric towns in the Aegean. Fresh seafood making its way from the ocean to your plate in a matter of hours, tomatoes and feta to die for and plentiful quantities of cold beer to wash it all down with made every meal a highlight. With friendly locals, historic sites dating back thousands of years, stunning views and calm seas, yachting in the Ionian is a truly magical experience. Read about it below, and then just go and book it.
